
Enhancing International Teaching Competence: Humaniora Students Intern in Thailand
HUMANIORA – (13/8/2024) Three students from the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang embarked on a new experience through the International Student Mobility and Academic Seminar in Humanities (I-SMASH) program in Thailand. This program spans 30 days, from July 18 to August 18, 2024. Abdul Givari Pratama Amboy, Mustofa, and Roy Ramadhani Afandi, each from the Arabic Language and Literature and English Literature programs, were selected to teach at Pattana Wittaya School in Yala.
The Faculty of Humanities students participating in the I-SMASH program at Pattana Wittaya School were assigned to different classes. Abdul Givari taught in Primary Class 1 Firdaus, Roy Ramadhani in Primary Class 2 Al Adn, and Mustofa in Primary Class 3 An Na'im.One of the I-SMASH participants, Abdul Givari, felt excited and happy to learn and share with young students from different cultures and languages. "Joining the I-SMASH program and teaching at Pattana Wittaya School, Yala, Thailand, was a very valuable experience that broadened my horizons. Teaching in Primary Class 1 Firdaus gave me the opportunity to interact with enthusiastic and passionate students. We not only shared knowledge but also exchanged cultures and languages," he said.
Meanwhile, the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Halimi, expressed pride in the dedication of the Faculty of Humanities students participating in the I-SMASH program in Thailand. He hopes that the I-SMASH program will provide significant benefits for the students. "The I-SMASH program offers invaluable experiences for students in developing teaching skills and understanding the culture and education system of another country. This is an important step in preparing them to become competent teachers at a global level," he added.According to him, I-SMASH is designed as a form of community service and fieldwork practice, providing valuable opportunities for students to gain direct experience in the field. "The I-SMASH program not only provides opportunities for students to study abroad but also broadens their perspectives in the field of teaching. This international experience is crucial for developing global competencies that will be useful in the future," he said.
This program demonstrates the Faculty of Humanities' commitment to providing holistic and diverse learning experiences for its students. Through participation in such activities, students not only gain academic knowledge but also practical skills that will be very useful in their future careers. [al]
