Exclusive Lecture with International Expert in Humanities I-MOVE

HUMANIORA - (23/10/2023) A different atmosphere filled the Language Laboratory at the Faculty of Humanities, Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University in Malang, on Thursday, October 19. This was because twenty selected students from the Faculty of Humanities had the unique opportunity to attend a lecture led by the expert, Dr. Azhar Ibrahim, from the National University of Singapore (NUS), as part of the special program, International Masterclass for Overarching View and Expertise (I-MOVE).
The presence of Dr. Azhar, a senior lecturer from the Department of Malay Studies at NUS, elevated the academic atmosphere at the Faculty of Humanities. During this session, Dr. Azhar not only delivered academic content as in a regular lecture but also facilitated exclusive discussions with the students on the relevance of literature, culture, and the thoughts of Indonesian scholars in the contemporary context.
This exclusive lecture provided a space for students to engage in discussions and also served as an opening for potential collaboration between the Faculty of Humanities and NUS in the form of workshops and joint research, enriching international partnerships. Mellinda Raswari Jambak, one of the participants in I-MOVE, shared her experience. She stated that the I-MOVE program had tremendous benefits. Besides expanding their knowledge in the field of humanities, the program also instilled valuable skills in quick and critical thinking, particularly in the domains of language and literature.
"It has been truly beneficial for us. We gained a wealth of experience related to goals, influential figures from Java, Islamic boarding school students and their 'kitab kuning,' the Malay language, and critical and fast-thinking approaches," expressed Mellinda.
This exclusive lecture emphasized the importance of connecting with international experts to develop an understanding of humanities that is relevant to our current era. The I-MOVE program is just the initial step promising broader collaboration in research and academic development at the Faculty of Humanities, UIN Malang. [al]
