Humanities Curriculum Evaluation: Semester Learning Plans Must Represent Curriculum Design

HUMANIORA – (June 13, 2024) Semester Learning Plans (RPS) must be able to represent the overall curriculum design. As an operational guide for lecturers in carrying out the learning process each semester, RPS must ensure that each course aligns with the vision, mission, and objectives of the study program and meets the standards set in the curriculum. This was stated by Dr. Meinarni Susilowati, M.Ed. during the Curriculum Evaluation event on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at the Savana Hotel & Convention, Jl. Letjen Sutoyo, Malang City.
Addressing the lecturers of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Meinarni shared her views on the importance of the Semester Learning Plan (RPS) in representing the curriculum design. According to her, RPS must design the scientific vision adopted from the university's scientific vision and play an important role in realizing the desired graduate profile. "RPS must be able to reflect the overall curriculum design. All RPS must play an important role in realizing the desired graduate profile," said Dr. Meinarni.
Dr. Meinarni also highlighted the importance of the curriculum developed within the RPS. The RPS is created based on the curriculum documents of the Study Program, which are compiled following the National Higher Education Standards that refer to the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI). "The curriculum must integrate technology in learning and ensure that the curriculum equips students with relevant skills in the era of disruption," she added.
Furthermore, Dr. Meinarni emphasized the importance of this activity as an effort to perfect the curriculum in the Faculty of Humanities. Curriculum adjustments are becoming increasingly urgent, especially in meeting the accreditation requirements of Study Programs.
"We need to formulate the graduate profile. To determine the graduate profile, we must listen to the voices of alumni and partners to consider how the learning design is packaged so that our students have competencies that align with graduate outcomes," explained Dr. Meinarni.
In her closing remarks, she also touched on the characteristics of modern learning that must be adopted in the curriculum. According to her, learning should be interactive, holistic, integrative, scientific, contextual, thematic, effective, collaborative, and student-centered. "These modern learning characteristics are important to ensure that students receive a comprehensive learning experience relevant to the needs of the industry and society," she added.
In this evaluation process, the lecturers conducted analysis and reflection on the learning process implemented in the 2023/2024 academic year using the existing RPS. By examining its strengths and weaknesses, the lecturers reorganized and planned learning more effectively and efficiently, aligning with the learning outcomes.
The Curriculum Evaluation event reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang to continuously innovate and ensure the relevance of education amidst changing times. With this effort, the faculty hopes to improve the quality of education and prepare students to face increasingly competitive job market challenges. This initiative shows that the Faculty of Humanities focuses not only on teaching but also on learning outcomes that can positively impact society. [al]
