Humanities Faculty Hosts Ethnolinguistics Research Workshop with Renowned Expert

HUMANIORA – (14/8/2024) In an effort to enhance interdisciplinary understanding between language and culture, the Faculty of Humanities at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang held an Ethnolinguistics Research Workshop on Thursday, August 15, 2024. The workshop, conducted in the third-floor auditorium of the Faculty of Humanities, featured ethnolinguistics expert Prof. Sahid Teguh Widodo, S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., a distinguished professor from the Faculty of Cultural Studies at Sebelas Maret University (UNS) Surakarta.
In his opening remarks, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. M. Faisol, expressed his gratitude and appreciation to Prof. Sahid for his willingness to share his expertise with the Humanities community. He emphasized the importance of this event in broadening the knowledge horizons of the faculty members, especially in the fields of language and culture.
"Ethnolinguistic research is highly relevant in the context of our Indonesian identity. Language and culture are inseparable elements, and through ethnolinguistic research, we can strengthen our cultural identity while enriching our scientific knowledge," he stated.
Dr. M. Faisol further stressed that this workshop is part of the Faculty's commitment to continually support the development of high-quality and relevant research that meets societal needs. "The Faculty of Humanities will continue to provide opportunities for lecturers, students, and researchers to grow, especially in areas that have a broad impact, such as ethnolinguistics," he added.
During his presentation, Prof. Sahid explained the importance of ethnolinguistics as a tool for exploring and understanding the cultural diversity present in Indonesia. He also shared examples of ethnolinguistic research he has conducted and techniques that researchers can use to achieve more comprehensive and relevant results. The workshop was not only theoretical but also included interactive discussion sessions where participants could ask questions and share their research experiences.
This Ethnolinguistics Research Workshop marks a significant moment for the Faculty of Humanities in developing expertise and competence in research, particularly in studies involving the interaction between language and culture.
