Humanities Faculty Prepares for New Study Program, Hosts Sharing Session with FBS UNDIKSHA

HUMANIORA – (8/8/2024) The Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is continuously striving to enhance its educational quality and institutional management through various strategic initiatives. As part of these efforts, the Faculty held an institutional development discussion with the Faculty of Languages and Arts at Universitas Pendidikan Ganesha (FBS UNDIKSHA) in Bali on Tuesday, August 7, 2024. The event aimed to strengthen collaboration between higher education institutions to improve academic standards, institutional management, and teaching innovation.
The Humanities delegation was warmly welcomed by the leadership of FBS UNDIKSHA, along with faculty members and educational staff, in the Nitisastra Theater Room of the Faculty of Languages and Arts.
"Welcome to the delegation from the Faculty of Humanities UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang at FBS UNDIKSHA. We are honored by the presence of the Dean and the entire delegation from Humanities. We hope this visit brings benefits and fruitful cooperation for both institutions," said Dr. Ni Luh Putu Eka Sulistia Dewi, S.Pd., M.Pd., Vice Dean I of FBS UNDIKSHA.
Subsequently, the leaders of both faculties held an institutional discussion in the Layonsari Seminar Room on the 3rd floor. A key point of the discussion was the plan to establish a Film Arts Study Program within the Faculty of Humanities.
Dr. M. Faisol, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, stated during the event that the Faculty is committed to expanding academic horizons and fostering student creativity by developing study programs relevant to industry needs and the interests of the younger generation. In pursuit of this vision, the Faculty of Humanities plans to establish a Film Arts Study Program.
"In response to the mandate from the Rector of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang to open new study programs, we at the Faculty of Humanities are focusing on the development of Film Arts and Cinematography Programs. We seek to learn more about the academic aspects related to these programs, explore opportunities, and understand the strategic steps to achieve our goals," said Dr. M. Faisol.
Responding to the intentions of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Ni Luh Putu Eka Sulistia Dewi, S.Pd., M.Pd., shared her experience in establishing the Visual Communication Design (DKV) Program at FBS UNDIKSHA.
"The first step is to conduct a needs analysis. It is important to identify market and industry needs related to Film Arts or DKV," she said.
In addition to needs analysis, Dr. Eka emphasized that benchmarking, or comparative studies with similar programs at other universities, is equally important. According to her, analyzing the curriculum, teaching methods, and facilities provided by other programs should be the main focus.
"Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of other programs is crucial to developing a more competitive and superior study program," she added.
Equally important, according to Dr. Eka, is the identification of specific areas of expertise that will be the focus of the study program. The development of a curriculum that covers various aspects of expertise in Film Arts or DKV is the primary goal.
"Collaboration with practitioners and professionals in the related fields is also pursued to enrich students' learning experiences," she said.
Furthermore, Dr. Eka Sulistia also stressed the need for at least one lecturer or teaching staff member to be an expert in a particular field within Film Arts or DKV. Meeting academic and professional qualification standards for lecturers is a priority, along with developing collaborative networks with experts and academics from other universities.
Lastly, Dr. Eka Sulistia emphasized that support from university and faculty leadership is crucial for establishing study programs. Collaboration with related institutions, both national and international, is also sought. Providing adequate facilities and infrastructure to support the teaching and learning process is a primary concern.
This discussion marks an important initial step in the institutional development of the Faculty of Humanities and is expected to have a positive impact on both institutions. With the plan to establish a Film Arts Study Program, the Faculty of Humanities is committed to continuing to innovate and respond to the challenges of the times, contributing to shaping a generation of young people who are creative, innovative, and ready to compete in the era of globalization.
