Humanities Gives I-YES 2024 Participants Insight into Indonesian Language and Culture

HUMANIORA – (10/9/2024) The International Youth Enhancing Study (I-YES) 2024 program, organized by the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, continued with a series of packed activities on the first day. In the "Program Overview" session, led by M. Edy Thoyib, M.A., participants were introduced to the Indonesian language and culture.
During this session, Edy not only taught the basics of the Indonesian language but also explained key aspects of communication and local culture. This language introduction aimed to help participants understand how to communicate effectively in Indonesia's social context while also introducing the cultural values held by the local community.
At the same time, You-I Japan representative, J. Mahameru, M.Sc., M.Litt., shared insights with the participants about Indonesian culture in a global context.
J. Mahameru emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting culture as a form of cultural diplomacy, especially in this era of globalization. "Culture is a bridge that strengthens relations between nations, while also serving as an irreplaceable identity."
The session was interactive, with participants actively asking questions and practicing speaking in Indonesian. This language and cultural introduction provided participants with an important foundation to help them adapt to their surroundings during the program.
With the start of the Humanities I-YES 2024, participants are expected not only to gain academic knowledge but also firsthand experience interacting with Indonesian culture. This program aims to develop individuals who excel academically and are sensitive to international social and cultural dynamics—an important asset for facing future global challenges. [al]
