Humanities Lecturer Earns Book Editor Competency Certificate from BNSP

HUMANIORA– (11/6/2024) Habiba Al Umami, M.Hum., a lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities at Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University Malang, has successfully earned a competency certificate as a Book Editor from the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) with a qualification in Copy Editing. She obtained this certification after passing a rigorous certification exam organized by the Professional Writers & Editors Certification Institute (LSP PEP), held on November 27, 2023, under the writing and manuscript editing scheme.

The certification exam that Habiba went through was not easy. This English Literature lecturer had to go through a series of written tests and interviews in front of BNSP assessors. The tests were designed to evaluate the participants' competencies in various aspects of manuscript editing, from the ability to correct grammatical and spelling errors to skills in editing content to make it more coherent and engaging for readers.

Moreover, during the exam session, Habiba had to complete a portfolio of documents, including books she had successfully edited. Her diligence and dedication finally paid off when she was declared to have passed and obtained the competency certificate.

"This process was very challenging, but also enjoyable," said Habiba. "This certificate is not only a personal achievement but also recognition of the quality of education and training at the Faculty of Humanities."

Meanwhile, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. Halimi, also congratulated Habiba on her achievement. "We are very proud of Ms. Habiba's achievement. This is tangible proof of her dedication and hard work in developing her competencies. We hope this achievement can inspire the entire academic community to continue excelling," he said.

This certification not only adds to Habiba Al Umami's personal achievements but also enhances the reputation of the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang as an institution that produces quality educators and professionals. It also opens up greater opportunities for Habiba to contribute to the field of writing and editing in Indonesia, both through teaching and professional practice.
