Humanities Lecturer Elected as Chair of ALTI for the 2024-2027 Period

HUMANIORA – (19/5/2024) Dr. Meinarni Susilowati, M.Ed., a lecturer at the Faculty of Humanities, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, has been elected as the Chair of the Indonesian Applied Linguistics Association (ALTI) for the 2024-2027 period. Dr. Meinarni Susilowati was chosen through the ALTI National Congress, held online and attended by the Advisory Board and active members of ALTI from all over Indonesia (18/5). Dr. Meinarni was elected via an e-voting mechanism, replacing the outgoing chair, Susanto, Ph.D.
Initially, Dr. Meinarni felt hesitant about accepting the election results. Currently, she also serves as the chair of the Linguistics and Literature Association (LITA) under the auspices of ADIA. However, she accepted the decision to honor the support of her colleagues, hoping to fulfill this responsibility well.
"It is indeed challenging to serve as the president of two associations simultaneously. Please pray that I have the strength to carry out this mandate well,” she said in an interview with the Infopub Team at Hermes Palace Hotel.
Meanwhile, Dr. Halimi, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Humanities, congratulated Dr. Meinarni on her achievement. He considered Dr. Meinarni's election as ALTI Chair to be a very positive development, given the contribution of Humanities lecturers to the broader field of scientific development.
"This is an outstanding achievement. Her extensive experience in linguistics and literature makes her the right person to lead ALTI forward. We are very proud and confident that Dr. Meinarni will take ALTI to greater heights," said Dr. Halimi.
Support for the newly elected ALTI President was also expressed by the congress committee, Dr. Mundi Rahayu, M.Hum. According to her, the position held by Dr. Meinarni is concrete proof that Faculty of Humanities lecturers can play active roles both locally and globally.
"We all support Dr. Meinarni in becoming the ALTI President. This shows that we can make a tangible contribution on a national and international level,” she said.
Dr. Meinarni's election as ALTI Chair is expected to bring new energy to the organization, given her extensive experience and leadership in various scientific associations. In the future, ALTI is expected to continue growing and making significant contributions to the field of applied linguistics in Indonesia and the international arena.
