
ISE: Humaniora Invites Professor Sender Dovchin from Australia
HUMANIORA - (3/22/2024) The Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang successfully held an International Scholar Engagement (ISE) on Thursday, March 21, 2024. This prestigious event featured renowned language and linguistics expert, Professor Sender Dovchin from Curtin University, Australia.
The ISE event was facilitated by Habiba Al-Umami, M.Hum., and attended by hundreds of students from the Faculty of Humanities who gathered online through the Zoom Meeting platform.In his opening speech, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Dr. M. Faisol, expressed gratitude to Professor Sender Dovchin for his willingness to be present among the academic community of the Faculty of Humanities. He stated that the ISE is an integral part of the faculty's efforts to provide students with experiences and knowledge from international experts, as well as to expand international networks. He hoped that this event would bring benefits and broaden students' horizons in the fields of language and literature.

"May this ISE provide valuable experiences for students and open their minds to the field of language and linguistics in the modern era," he said.Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the ISE committee, Ribut Wahyudi, Ph.D., also expressed appreciation for Professor Sender Dovchin. He described him as an outstanding researcher in the field of language and linguistics whose presence would contribute significantly to enhancing students' knowledge.
"The presence of Professor Sender Dovchin is a golden opportunity for the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang to broaden students' perspectives in the field of linguistics," he said.During this event, Professor Sender Dovchin from Curtin University, Australia, delivered an interesting presentation titled "The Ordinariness of Linguistic Creativity." He discussed current debates in bilingual and multilingual studies that question certain paradigms, such as codeswitching, which are considered to construct static language boundaries and link them to creative communication practices.
The ISE provided students with an opportunity to deepen their understanding of important topics in the humanities, particularly in language and literature.
