Language, the Key to Success in International Careers
HUMANIORA – (29/7/2024) In this era of globalization, proficiency in foreign languages has become a key factor in achieving success in international careers. As the world becomes increasingly interconnected through technology and communication, foreign language skills not only enhance job opportunities but also expand professional networks and career prospects in various countries.
Recognizing this importance, the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang continues to enhance the foreign language competence of its students and alumni through various flagship programs. One concrete step taken is the Humaniora International Career Access Network (I-CAN) program, which aims to facilitate international career development for students and alumni. The first phase of Humaniora I-CAN was successfully held in November 2023.This program provides intensive training and career support, featuring speakers from various global business sectors to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed in the international job market. This highlights why mastering foreign languages is essential for climbing the international career ladder, unlocking limitless opportunities, and providing access to promising prospects worldwide.
The first phase of Humaniora I-CAN received positive feedback from participants. One such participant is Miftahul Ilmia, a 2020 student from the Arabic Language and Literature program. Ilmia shared her experience on how the program helped her develop skills and knowledge relevant to an international career."My motivation for joining Humaniora I-CAN was to gain knowledge related to careers suitable for my major. This program was very helpful in understanding international careers," she said.
This student from Mojokerto City admitted that she gained a lot of insights about international careers in various fields. "With I-CAN, I not only learned about the careers I should pursue in the future but also built many relationships with clients, consultants, and companies both domestically and abroad. I-CAN in Bahasa Indonesia also motivated me that 'I Can,' a strong determination that I must instill to overcome life's challenges," Ilmia expressed. One memorable moment for Ilmia was when YOU-I Japan and YOU-I Bali visited the Faculty of Humanities for partnership exploration. "This experience was very inspiring. I met many inspiring people. Until now, I have become a liaison assisting YOU-I Japan in the exploration process at campuses in Malang," she added.
Ilmia also highlighted her views on future career opportunities after participating in the I-CAN program. "Arabic Literature graduates are often considered only capable of becoming 'Quran Teachers.' However, from I-CAN, I learned that Arabic Literature graduates can become anything. My perspective on future career opportunities has broadened with this program. In my opinion, the main key to an international career is 'Language.' Language takes us to explore the world besides other skills. My hope after participating in I-CAN is to practice all the knowledge I gained and contribute to the agency that provided my internship. With great hope, I can continue my career in companies or agencies in Japan or other countries," she said.
The Humaniora I-CAN program clearly has a significant positive impact on the students and alumni of the Faculty of Humanities. Through this program, they not only gain knowledge and skills relevant to international careers but also expand their professional networks, which are invaluable in the global job market. The Faculty of Humanities remains committed to offering innovative programs like I-CAN to support students and alumni in achieving global career success. [al]
