OBE-Based Curriculum Workshop: Preparing Competitive Graduates in the Era of Globalization

Humaniora – (June 15, 2024) The paradigm shift from Input-Based Education to Outcome-Based Education (OBE) has led to significant changes in various aspects of the educational world. This paradigm shifts the focus of education not only on teaching but also on the expected outcomes from each student. This means that graduates must possess clear and measurable competencies. This was conveyed by OBE curriculum expert, Dr. Adi Sutrisno, during the OBE-Based Curriculum Workshop held by the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Savana Hotel & Convention, Jl. Letjen Sutoyo, Malang City.
According to Dr. Adi, the OBE approach emphasizes applicable skills and knowledge, ensuring that graduates have competencies that align with the needs of industry and society. This is crucial in the era of globalization, where competition in the job market is increasingly open. "Globalization creates a borderless world, where graduates from Europe can work in Indonesia. We are surrounded by high-quality graduates, and therefore, education in Indonesia must prepare its graduates to compete in the global competition," said Dr. Adi.
Dr. Adi also emphasized the importance of the OBE Curriculum in directing education towards outcome-oriented achievements. He stated, "Graduates must be able to demonstrate specific skills relevant to the needs of industry and society. Ideally, they should be employable in the industry within less than six months."
Furthermore, Dr. Adi highlighted the importance of learning instruments that support the achievement of expected learning outcomes. According to him, these outcomes will ensure that the philosophy of science remains relevant to industrial needs. Therefore, learning must be supported by appropriate instruments to enable graduates to achieve the desired results.
On the other hand, OBE aligns various elements to support students' achievement of learning outcomes. These elements include targeted learning outcomes, curriculum, teaching methods, assessment of learning outcomes, continuous quality improvement, and all available resources such as lecturers, physical facilities, information systems and governance, and managing institutions.
This workshop reflects the commitment of the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang to continuously innovate and ensure the relevance of education amidst changing times. Through this effort, the faculty hopes to improve the quality of education and prepare students to face the increasingly competitive challenges in the job market. [al]
