Sapta Pesona in the Context of Tourism

HUMANIORA – (15/7/2024) Sapta Pesona is a tourism awareness concept that involves the active role of the community as hosts in creating a conducive environment and atmosphere for the development of the tourism industry. This concept includes seven important elements: safety, orderliness, cleanliness, coolness, beauty, friendliness, and memorable experiences. This was explained by the Director of Bromo Holiday Malang, Muallif, during a Practical Fieldwork Preparation (PKL) activity held in the theater room of the Faculty of Humanities, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, on July 3, 2024.
On this occasion, Muallif highlighted the importance of creating a sense of safety for tourists. In front of PKL participants in the field of tourism, he explained that a safe environment provides peace of mind and reduces the fear and anxiety of tourists during their travels. Some practical actions to create a safe environment include not disturbing the comfort of tourists, providing assistance and information, maintaining cleanliness, and minimizing accident risks.
Next, Muallif explained that an orderly environment reflects high discipline and consistent service. He emphasized the importance of queuing culture, obeying regulations, being punctual, and maintaining order and neatness at tourist destinations.
In addition to addressing orderliness, Muallif also highlighted the issue of environmental cleanliness, which reflects a healthy and hygienic condition, providing comfort and happiness for tourists. Practical actions include not littering, maintaining the cleanliness of tourist attractions, and ensuring that the food and drinks served are clean and hygienic.
Furthermore, Muallif emphasized that the friendliness of the local community is crucial for providing a sense of comfort and acceptance for tourists. Showing a friendly attitude, being respectful, and always being ready to help tourists are practical actions that must be taken.
Lastly, Muallif highlighted the importance of creating memorable experiences for tourists. Exploring and highlighting the uniqueness of local culture, serving special foods, and providing attractive souvenirs are some ways to leave a lasting impression on tourists.
Muallif concluded his presentation with the hope that PKL participants could apply the Sapta Pesona concept in their practices, thereby making a tangible contribution to the development of tourism in Indonesia.
This PKL preparation activity is expected to provide students with a deep understanding of the importance of Sapta Pesona in developing a sustainable and quality tourism industry. With the active role of the community and support from all parties, Indonesia's tourism industry can continue to grow and develop, benefiting everyone. [al]
