TVA Fifth Session: Responding to Changes in Education
HUMANIORA – (August 30, 2024) The Teacher Virtual Academy (TVA) program continued its fifth session on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, under the crucial theme, "Teacher Thinking, Learning, and Identity In The Process of Educational Change." This session featured linguistics and learning expert Dr. Ulil Fitriyah, M.Pd., M.Ed., who emphasized the importance of change in teaching, particularly in English education.

In the training, which was held online via the Humanities E-Learning Oasis (HELO) platform, Dr. Ulil Fitriyah explained that the paradigm of change in teaching plays a vital role in responding to the dynamics of the continuously evolving educational world. According to her, along with social changes, technological advancements, and increasingly complex student needs, teachers are required not only to adapt but also to be proactive in developing relevant and effective teaching methods.“This transformation is not merely a choice but a necessity to ensure that the learning process remains contextual, meaningful, and capable of producing graduates who are prepared to face future challenges,” she emphasized.
Dr. Ulil further stressed that change is a dynamic concept that must be understood from various perspectives. "The definition of change depends on how we perceive the situation and what we see in it." According to her, individual perspectives greatly influence how change is interpreted and implemented in the educational context. Moreover, the Malang native elaborated on the importance of educational reform, social change, and the ever-evolving needs of students. According to her, these three factors are the primary reasons why changes in teaching must be taken seriously. "These changes not only affect teaching methods but also impact the identity and decisions made by educators in the teaching process," she explained.
In closing, Dr. Ulil emphasized that progress in education cannot be achieved without significant change. "Progress is impossible without change. Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything," she concluded. This message underscores the urgency for continuous adaptation and development, both professionally and personally, so that educators can meet the challenges of the ever-evolving educational landscape. With this in-depth presentation, the fifth session of the Teacher Virtual Academy has become a crucial moment for participants to internalize the importance of change in teaching. It is hoped that educators will apply this concept in their daily practice, creating a dynamic learning environment that is responsive to the needs of students in this modern era. [al]
