UIN Malang’s Rector Highlights the Impact of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution on Education

HUMANIORA - (12/2/2024) The Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang marked the beginning of the even semester of the academic year 2023/2024 by organizing the event "Report on Odd Semester Performance and Coordination of Even Semester Lectures" on Monday, February 12, 2024, at the Theater Room, 3rd Floor of the Faculty of Humanities. The event was attended directly by the Rector of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, Prof. Dr. H. M. Zainuddin, MA. and the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Institutional Development, Prof. Dr. Umi Sumbulah, M.Ag.
In his speech, the Rector emphasized the urgency of this activity as a foundation for achieving the university's goals and objectives in the future. Prof. Zainuddin highlighted the role of lecturers as one of the crucial pillars in higher education, playing a strategic role in facing the digitization era and the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.
Furthermore, Prof. Zainuddin described the impact of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, indicating the emergence of 97 million new jobs by 2025, replacing 85 million old jobs. This situation pushes the business and industry world (DUDI) as well as technology to continue innovating, demanding the presence of Human Resources (HR) that are not only competent but also competitive.
"Universities are considered successful if the profile of graduates matches the needs of society," he said.
Therefore, the Rector hopes that the profile of graduates from the Faculty of Humanities has four main competencies, namely spiritual, moral, intellectual, and professional depth. According to him, this requires a creative and contextual learning process, as mentioned in UNESCO's education pillars, namely Learning to know, Learning to do, Learning to be, and Learning to live together.
In the same vein, the Rector also highlighted the crucial role of universities in producing graduates ready to compete in the era of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution. He emphasized the need for innovation and readiness to face global changes. In this context, Prof. Zainuddin underlined the need for curriculum adjustments focusing on new skills such as coding, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI).
