HUMANIORA – (8/6/2024) The musical drama "Wonka The Chocolatier's Tale" successfully captivated the audience in the theater room of the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang on Friday evening, June 8, 2024. This drama performance is part of the practicum for the course Basic Analysis of English Drama, offered in the fourth semester of the English Literature Study Program. The course is taught by lecturers Whida Rositama, M.Hum., and Hafidhun Anas, M.Hum.
The fantasy drama, directed by Qarina Fitri Aulia, tells the story of a young Willy Wonka and his journey to become an eccentric and famous chocolatier. "I am very proud of the whole team involved in the preparation and execution of this performance. Thank you to the supervising lecturers, Ms. Whida and Mr. Hafidhun, who have guided the students," he said.
Dr. Halimi, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Humanities, who also attended the performance, expressed his appreciation. He highlighted the dedication of the actors who successfully brought the story to life while maintaining the ethics taught. "This is extraordinary. Through drama performances, students have the opportunity to explore characters, emotions, and conflicts within the story they present, while adhering to the ethics and boundaries taught,” Dr. Halimi stated in his speech.
The drama performance not only attracted the attention of Humanities students. Dila, one of the audience members from FITK UIN Malang, gave positive feedback after watching the drama.
"I was amazed because the drama was excellent. I had previously watched the film version and the storyline matched the film, making it very interesting. All the actors, lighting, storyline, and the musical drama were all great,” she said enthusiastically.
After the drama performance, the supervising lecturer, Whida Rositama, M.Hum., gave positive comments on her students' performance. "The drama was amazing, considering the preparation time was quite short. Alhamdulillah, despite the limited time, everyone was able to present the drama well," she said.
Whida also advised her students to keep creating in the future. "It's all about learning by doing. Don't stop creating, don't just stop at this drama performance, because our stage in the world is vast for creating and presenting the best."
The success of this performance is also tangible proof that the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang has talented and dedicated students. It is hoped that activities like this will continue to enrich students' learning experiences and expand appreciation for the arts. [ls/rj]
