Humaniora Equips Lecturers and Staff with Risk Management in Academic Environments

HUMANIORA – (June 14, 2024) In an era full of uncertainty, risk management becomes a vital component in the management of educational institutions. Educational institutions face various risks, ranging from academic and operational risks to financial and reputational risks. To anticipate these, the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang equipped lecturers and educational staff through a risk management workshop held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Savana Hotel & Convention Malang, Jl. Letjen Sutoyo, Malang City.
This workshop featured risk management expert from the Asia Institute of Technology and Business Malang, Mariana Puspa Dewi, S.E., M.I.Kom. The event was designed to provide an understanding of the identification, analysis, and management of risks that the Faculty of Humanities might face in conducting  its business processes.
Mariana Puspa Dewi began her presentation by explaining various concepts related to risk management. She described how risks can affect operational and academic strategies, using the business processes of the Faculty of Humanities as an example, particularly in the aspect of student services.
"The Faculty of Humanities needs to realize that their reputation in conducting business processes, especially in providing services to stakeholders, is very important. Students as the main customers must feel comfortable and satisfied with the services provided," she said.
According to her, lecturers and educational staff play a crucial role in managing academic affairs. They must be able to provide excellent service and create a pleasant impression for students.
"Lecturers and staff must be skilled in 'acting,' providing good service to students with a sincere smile. This is not just about acting, but about creating a friendly and supportive environment for students," she explained.
Furthermore, Mariana also delivered material on techniques for identifying risks, risk analysis using quantitative and qualitative approaches, and effective mitigation strategies. She emphasized that every lecturer and educational staff member must have a basic understanding of risk management to contribute to creating a safe and productive academic environment.
In her closing remarks, Mariana stressed that by implementing good risk management, the Faculty of Humanities can manage potential risks and capitalize on opportunities to achieve the desired educational goals.
"Risk management is not just about avoiding losses, but also about leveraging opportunities to achieve strategic goals," said Mariana.
The risk management workshop organized by the Faculty of Humanities is a proactive step in increasing awareness and capacity for risk management in the academic environment. This workshop is expected to provide sufficient knowledge for lecturers and educational staff to face future challenges and ensure that the Faculty of Humanities at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang remains an excellent and trusted educational institution.
